Do-it-Yourself Garage Door Inspection and Maintenance

If you haven’t tried this project in the past, now is the perfect time to start!* It’s an easy-to-medium project; allowing yourself plenty of time to accomplish it. Here are the basics:
Items Needed:

Phillips/Flat Head Screwdrivers
Old cloth(s)
Silicone lubricant, preferably 3-n-1 Garage Door Lubricant (WD-40 can be used, but is not recommended, as it’s more of a cleaner)
Ladder or Step Stool
Safety items (goggles, aprons, etc)

Things to Accomplish:

Inspect and tighten any loose hinges and brackets
Check wear of rollers.
Inspect door rails.
Lubricate: springs, hinges and roller STEMS (not rollers themselves)

(You can purchase 3-n-1 Lubricant at our showroom, along with hinges, bottom weather seals, etc.)
Tip: Add this project to your calendar when changing smoke detector batteries, air filters, etc. It’s a great habit to get into! If anything seems to be not working properly, is still noisy after lubrication, or just doesn’t look right; feel free to give us a call! 972-422-1695 *Garage doors and garage door openers are some of the more sophisticated and largest mechanisms in your home.
